James Malone is a radio personality and stand-up comedian from in Cleveland, Ohio. He presently hosts a weekday show heard on iHeart’s WTAM 1100 AM/106.9 FM in Cleveland.

He attended Chesterfield Elementary School (where, by his own admission, he was a class comedian), and when he was a teenager (after his family relocated to suburban Shaker Heights), he attended Shaker Heights High School, from which he graduated in 1972. Malone then went to college, starting at Cleveland State University and transferring after a semester to Morehouse College in Atlanta before settling in at Ohio University, where he eventually graduated in the mid-1970s.

After college, Malone struggled between insurance salesman and real estate agent (following his father’s guidance) while still working as an entertainer. A large portion of Malone’s program was called “Jump to the News”, in which Malone read the newspaper and commented on an unusual story. In 1985, WMJI FM 105.7 morning DJ John Lanigan attended one of Malone’s shows at the (now defunct) Cleveland Comedy Club and asked him to bring “Knuckleheads” to Central Radio. Malone began his broadcasting career in 1985, first hosting the weekly “Knuckleheads” program on WMJI’s popular Lanigan and Webster program. In 1991, Malone became a full-time member of the show, which would later become known as Lanigan, Webster and Malone, eventually leaving Lanigan and Malone only after John Webster left the show in 1996. Malone won the Marconi Entrepreneur of the Year Award. in 2005 (shared with Lanigan). Lanigan will retire in 2014, but Malone will continue to host the morning show until 2021, when he will begin hosting his own weekly show, which can be heard Fridays on WMJI’s sister station WARF AM 1350 and Saturday mornings on WMJI’s Replay . In April 2022, the show moved to sister station WTAM 1100 AM/106.9 FM and airs Sundays from 9 to 10 a.m.
