Wilson and Bath married on January 12, 2012, at a private family event in the Hunter Valley, after dating for three years.

Wilson confirmed his departure from the Seven Network in June 2020, leaving after 28 years to join 2GB as Drive host, succeeding Ben Fordham. Jim left the Seven Network on June 27. Wilson said in November 2022 that he will deliver his final 2GB Drive radio show on November 10, 2022. Wilson will be replaced by Chris O’Keefe, a correspondent for Nine News. Wilson announced his departure from the Nine Network in February 2023.

Wilson made Australian television history in August 2012, when he took over as sports anchor on Seven News Sydney from Tony Squires. Wilson is married to Seven News broadcaster Chris Bath, and this was the first time a married couple anchored an Australian news bulletin.
Jim was named sport presenter on the relaunched Seven Afternoon News in August 2013. Wilson has also presented the sport on Seven Morning News from Tuesday to Friday since February 2017. Wilson also worked as a reporter for the Seven Network at the London Olympics in 2012, appearing on a variety of Seven Network news bulletins and programs. Jim was also covering the Olympics for the sixth time, as a reporter or commentator.
Wilson hosted Seven’s coverage of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs’ friendly matches against Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC in 2013 and 2015, respectively. He is a Western Sydney Wanderers fan and served as an official ambassador for Australia’s hosting of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
Wilson was appointed in March 2016 as the new leader of Seven’s sport team and would continue to present sport on Seven News on Fridays and Saturdays, making way for new recruit Mel McLaughlin. Wilson hosted Seven’s coverage of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. Wilson was announced as the host of Seven’s coverage of the Big Bash League and Women’s Big Bash League in 2018.
