Career
Williams began his broadcasting career in 1977 as a part-time news anchor at WGN-TV in Chicago. Over the years, he climbed the ranks, becoming a writer, producer, and eventually a reporter at WGN-TV in Chicago. In 1988, he was appointed to the media as a reporter and producer. Williams worked at WGN for a total of 15 years before leaving the station in 1992 to work in local government. Williams served as press secretary to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Williams from 1992 to 1997. Daley hosted the city government’s first television show, “Chicago Works!” and represented the city at the 1996 Democratic National Convention. In June 1997, Williams joined ABC News as a Chicago correspondent. According to a November 15, 2002 article in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Williams was a finalist to replace Lester Holt as WBBM-TV news director in 2000. Williams left ABC News in June 2001 as part of a companywide restructuring. Williams joined WGN-TV as a daily freelance writer in 2001. He held this position until 2002. In December 2002, Williams joined WBBM-TV as a host. In mid-2003, he became WBBM’s morning news anchor. In January 2006, he became the station’s evening news anchor. On December 16, 2021, WBBM-TV announced that Williams and Marie Saavedra will join its new hourly newscast airing January 24, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.
