Jim Miklaszewski( born James Alan Miklaszewsk) is a veteran journalist who has spent over forty years covering the White House and Pentagon for NBC News. Miklaszewski began his broadcasting career in West Texas at radio stations KVOP in Plainview and KLBK in Lubbock.

Career
Jim, the Pentagon’s NBC director, was the first to announce the attack on the Pentagon when it was reported from his desk on September 11, 2001, that American Airlines Flight 77 had crashed into the building. He later oversaw NBC’s coverage of the US military’s involvement in the war in Afghanistan and the US capture of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden.
Miklaszewski began his broadcasting career at KVOP Radio in Plainview, West Texas, and KLBK Radio in Lubbock. He then spent several years as a news director/reporter for various radio stations in Madison and La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Fort Worth, Texas. In 1980, Miklaszewski signed on to become one of the “CNN Originals” and quickly moved into combat, including wars in Lebanon, El Salvador, and the Falkland Islands. Then CNN sent him to the Reagan White House to cover the bombings in Lebanon that killed 241 Americans and 58 French workers, the US military attack on Grenada, and the President and Mrs. Trump. NBC first hired Miklaszewski as a Pentagon correspondent in 1985, and he joined the U.S. military during the “tanker war” in the Persian Gulf. Jim was later chosen to cover President George H.W. Bush during the first Gulf War with Iraq and in his meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yelchin. He remained in the White House throughout President Bill Clinton’s first term and re-election. Miklaszewski returned to the Pentagon and covered the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. invasion of Iraq and, most recently, the U.S. Navy SEAL mission that killed Osama bin Laden. During his career, Miklaszewski won an Emmy Award for his coverage of the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Russia; He won the Edward R. Cable Industry Award for covering the costs of the civil war in El Salvador. He retired from NBC on September 28, 2016.
