WNYW in New York City, KCBS and KTLA in Los Angeles, and WTXF in Philadelphia have all previously employed Castillo. He also worked in Seattle, first as chief meteorologist at KCPQ and then as a meteorologist at KOMO. He also worked on film and television projects such as CBS’s Criminal Minds and BBC America’s Torchwood: Miracle Day. Castillo acted in the films Leap of Faith, Blink, With Honors, and Duplex while working full-time in television news. He left KTLA in 2015 to marry and relocate to northern Indiana, where he became a commercial real estate broker. He is a SAG-AFTRA vested member and has been awarded the CBM Seal of Approval by the American Meteorological Society.
He was the secretary of the Meteorology Club, a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and a cheerleader in college. He interned for the National Weather Service in Jefferson City, Missouri, while in college. He also worked as an intern in the weather department at KOMU, an NBC Network affiliate in Columbia, Missouri, which led to his first on-air job as a weather anchor and host of a weekly exercise show. Castillo began his career as a storm chaser in the Midwest and Texas, earning a National Weather Service storm chasing card. He was the first meteorologist on “Good Day Philadelphia” at WTXF, a Fox Network station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also hosted segments and conducted live interviews.
He was offered his first chief meteorologist position at KCPQ, a Nexstar Media Group-owned station in Seattle, Washington, after nearly two years. In 1999, he received his first individual Northwest Emmy Award for Best Weather in the Pacific Northwest while working at the station. In 2001, Castillo became the chief meteorologist for CBS Network affiliate KCBS in Los Angeles, California, where he worked on the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts. Castillo accepted a position as evening meteorologist at WNYW Fox 5 in New York City in September 2002. He stayed at the station for more than three years.Castillo worked as a morning meteorologist at KOMO in Seattle, Washington, from January 2006 to August 2009.
Castillo joined the weekend team at KTLA, Los Angeles’ oldest television station, as the first weekend meteorologist in June 2010. He also anchored the weather on the weekly newscasts at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. He spent several years as a commercial real estate broker at NAI Hanning & Bean in Fort Wayne, Indiana before returning to television. Castillo joined KSDK in January 2020 as a meteorologist, working on Friday shows at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m., Saturday shows at 5 p.m., and Tuesday through Thursday newscasts at 5 p.m.
