Trejo began performing stand-up comedy in his early twenties, mostly at the Comedy Store, where he also worked as a doorman and waiter until he began performing for a fee. His first major role was on the TBS comedy series Sullivan & Son. In 2018, he starred in the AARP documentary Care to Laugh, which tells the story of how he, a would-be actor, became the primary caregiver for his parents, both of whom were battling cancer. In 2019, he starred in the Netflix comedy series Mr. Iglesias. Trejo premiered his first one-hour special, “Hometown Son,” on Showtime in May 2020; on this show, she talks about her life as a “first-generation Mexican American, growing up with immigrant parents, codes, and everything from running your first marathon to winning. Your first marathon. Her second special, The Practice, is on YouTube in 2023.
