Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

She played Captain Angel in the first season episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, “The Serene Squall”. She also featured on the episode’s aftershow, where she interviewed costume designer Bernadette Croft. Captain Angel was a pirate who led the Serene Squall, a pirate ship that invaded the Federation border in the mid-23rd century.

Angel boarded the USS Enterprise in 2259, disguised as former Starfleet officer Dr. Aspen, who had been left stranded on a desolate planet, to persuade Captain Christopher Pike to help rescue three colonial ships stuck beyond Federation borders. Angel stated that her Vulcan spouse was killed while heading an assistance expedition that was raided by the Squall.

They traveled through the decks with Lieutenant Spock while the pirates seized the ship, finally arriving at engineering, where Spock deactivated the security lockdown initiated by first officer Una Chin-Riley shortly before the pirates took over the bridge. When Angel disengaged the lockdown, he rerouted control to the bridge and gained complete control of the ship, revealing their actual nature.

Angel’s aim was not merely to board the Enterprise, but also to apprehend Spock himself. Their plan was to compel a prisoner swap with T’Pring, Spock’s betrothed and an official with El-Keshtanktil, which would rehabilitate Vulcans who had deviated from the road of reasoning. When Angel met T’Pring near the Federation border, she proposed exchanging Spock for their own lover, Xaverius.

Spock inferred from their adopted mannerisms that “Xaverius” was actually his own half-brother Sybok, a V’tosh ka’tur. The effort failed due to a ruse orchestrated by Spock and Nurse Christine Chapel, as well as Pike and the crew gaining control of the Squall. Though the Squall and its crew were apprehended, Angel escaped via a transporter built into a pendant around their neck and left in their own personal vessel.

Big Sky

Keitel will play Jerrie, a gender-fluid artist with high goals, whose intimate relationship with a kidnapping suspect takes an unexpected turn. Keitel’s casting as one of the leads is genuinely significant, as they are one of the few nonbinary actors, and the only nonbinary series regular, to have acted in a primetime television series. Keitel has been an outspoken supporter for LGBTQ+ representation in Hollywood.

She claims she knew she was a girl since she was four years old, yet she could not choose her own bedtime or smoke a cigarette. She adored all things girlie, such as dolls and gowns, but never spoke about it. When she was fourteen, she realized she couldn’t keep it a secret any longer and informed her parents. They told her they loved her, then enrolled her in therapy. She told them that treatment would not help, so she departed before they could provide her with the assistance she required. Since then, she has been living alone in a trailer park.

Jerrie is a young trans woman who has suffered greatly as a result of her gender, including being booted out by her parents and forced to undertake sex work for survival. This leads to her being kidnapped and trafficked. She escapes, however, and transforms her life with the acceptance of new individuals.

Jesse James Keitel Queer as Folk

She portrayed “Ruthie, a trans, semi-reformed party girl who is struggling to grow up” in the Peacock remake of Queer as Folk. Ruthie O’Neil has been Shar’s partner and Brodie’s best friend since they attended Catholic high school together.

The series is set in New Orleans and follows a varied group of friends whose lives are affected after a shooting at the Babylon, an LGBT nightclub. The group suffers with vulnerability, addiction, sorrow, and interpersonal relationships.
