Career

Weigel began his career as an actor, performing at Second City Northwest, Wisdom Bridge Theatre, and the National Jewish Theatre. He also works on speaking. In 1995, Weigel began working as a traffic reporter for WMVP-AM and WLUP-FM in Chicago. In 1997, he moved to news anchor at WMVP-AM and worked with anchors such as Danny Bonaduce and Steve Cochran. From late 1997 to early 1999, he worked as an entertainment reporter at WGN-TV in Chicago. In 1999, Weigel and her husband, Clay Champlin, began hosting a Saturday night radio show on WCKG-FM in Chicago. From 2002 to 2003, Weigel hosted a Saturday afternoon talk show on WLS-AM in Chicago. He also occasionally works as a host at WGN-AM radio in Chicago.

In 1999, Weigel began working as a freelance entertainment writer at WBBM-TV in Chicago. He took a full-time job in 2000 and won a Chicago Emmy Award for his broadcast in 2001. In 2002, Weigel immediately requested termination of his contract with the network after he was reassigned to on-air duties. Weigel later worked as a freelance reporter for ABC News’ Chicago bureau and held some marketing and speaking assignments. He also founded his own production company, JCW Productions, in 2002.In 2005, Weigel began hosting and producing the weekly news program Taste, which airs on WMAQ-TV in Chicag0.

Weigel published his first book, Stay Tuned, in 2007; Talk to Dads on the Other Side is a book about her relationship with her late football husband Tim Weigel and her attempts to connect with her father after his death. The following year Weigel published the book “I’m a Ghost, Damn It!” He adapted it into a show called. at the Viaduct Theater in Chicago. His second book, I Am a Spirit, Damn! The book was published in October 2010 and is currently available in German, French, Spanish and English.

Weigel has played many roles since starting his career in television and radio. In 1999, he played a television reporter in an episode of the television series Early Edition, and in 2001 he played a reporter in John Hughes’ film Newport South. In December 2014, he became a television correspondent for Chicago Fire. In July 2018, Weigel was hired by the Chicago Sun-Times as community manager. In March 2019, Weigel signed on to host Manco Mueller’s morning radio show on WLS-AM in Chicago
