Jennifer Jacobs Career
Jacobs began her career as a political reporter for The Des Moines Register in 2004, covering the Iowa legislature and state government until she was designated top politics reporter following the Iowa caucuses in 2011. Jacobs joined Bloomberg as a national political reporter few months before the 2016 presidential election. She was swiftly made a White House correspondent, and Politico said in December 2019 that she was “seen within the press corps as having one of the best relationships with Trump and his staff.” Jacobs has appeared on PBS, CNN, and MSNBC, among other networks. The Trump 2020 presidential campaign chastised Jacobs after Bloomberg News said it would not cover any Democratic presidential contenders in 2020.
Jacobs was dragged out of a Trump campaign press conference in Iowa in February 2020. Hope Hicks, a prominent White House official and close ally of Donald Trump, was diagnosed with the coronavirus in October 2020, according to Jacobs. Shortly after, other key Republicans and Trump administration officials, including Trump, admitted to being afflicted as well. Noting that the administration had attempted to keep this information from getting public, New York Magazine remarked that “the world might still be in the dark” about the White House COVID-19 epidemic without Jacobs’ scoop.
