Jeffrey Sebelia Project Runway

Sebelia auditioned for Bravo’s Project Runway in the spring of 2006, inspired by the success of his friend, former contestant Santino Rice. Jeffrey was chosen to compete, was one of the final four contestants to present their collections at Fashion Week, and was ultimately named the winner. He was portrayed as the “villain” of the third season, notorious for his explicit language and making fellow contestant Angela Keslar’s mother cry when he worked with her as a client for a challenge.

Sebelia’s final winning collection was filled with bright colors, flowing dresses, and smart separates; it was a far cry from the grunge, punk, and rock ‘n’ roll-style outfits he had created throughout the season. His prize package included $100,000 to launch his own clothing line, a 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster, a year of representation by Designer’s Management Agency, and a 15-page spread in ELLE magazine featuring Marilinda Rivera, the model with whom he was paired for the majority of the Project Runway challenges.

Jeffrey Sebelia Cosa Nostra

Sebelia enrolled in sewing classes at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College after completing a successful drug rehabilitation program at the age of 31. He fell in love with design there and founded the clothing line Cosa Nostra shortly afterward. Dave Navarro, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marilyn Manson, Elton John, Madonna, and Tommy Lee were among the label’s celebrity clients. Cosa Nostra was sold in approximately twenty stores worldwide.

Sebelia invested his $100,000 prize in his Cosa Nostra brand. He was hired in 2007 to design a live-action film based on the Bratz cartoon characters. He was fired after referring to the characters as “slutty” in an interview. Cosa Nostra went bankrupt in 2009. Sebelia then released an eponymous collection, which appears to have ended as well.

Sebelia was named the head designer of the Fluxus brand in 2010. He left that job to co-found the edgy children’s clothing line La Miniatura with a friend, Melissa Bochco. Sebelia appeared on Project Runway: All Stars (season 3) in 2013, finishing seventh out of eleven contestants.
