Career

Altman started his career at the Comedy Store in 1974. He made his television debut in 1976 on Bill Cosby’s children’s show “Cos.” A year later, he participated in the Starland Vocal Band Show and performed with celebrities such as David Letterman and Mark Russell. In 1978 he played sleazy record producer Lenny Litchfield in the US film Hot Wax. Altman also hosted NBC’s short-lived variety show “Pink and Jeff” in the 1980s, which reached No. 1 in the world rankings. It ranks 35th on TV Show’s “50 Best Programs of All Time” list. Ultraman appears in the first episode of A Night at the Improv.

Ten years later, he became the house act for Hot Stuff, which also featured Al Punker, owner of Al Punker’s Music Barn, “Musical Vampire Count Downula” and former boxer Leonard Moon, which would be his last. “I don’t have a brain in ice,” he said, “and I am a Gold Music critic. My theme tonight is music. Spokesperson for Budweiser beer. In 1989, Altman released his only comedy album, I’ll Flip You Like a Cheese Omelet (Mercury 842 070â1), and that same year he performed at three Hollywood institutions: The Laugh Factory, Comedy Store, and Irvine Improv. In the 1990s, Ultraman appeared in the first season of the NBC series Nurses (1991-1992). The series was canceled after being renewed for a second season. A feature of his stand-up career was often making fun of his father, and Altman still found playing Nickerson entertaining until the late 1980s. He became publisher of Sunday Comics in 1991, but was later replaced by Lenny Clark. On February 22, 1991, Altman created his own show, Jeff Altman’s Scrapbook, where he continued to parody his “father” as Uncle Carl, whom he had played since the 1980s. In 2017, Jeff Altman hosted a fundraiser for McCormac College of Lake View at the Chicago location of the Laugh Factory in Chicago.
