Bellini worked for MTV in 2000, as part of the network’s “street team” for MTV’s Choose or Lose election coverage, which accompanied presidential candidates on the campaign trail during the 2000 election. He also worked as a freelance writer for Washington Post.com and Channel One News. Bellini spent months in New York City in 2001 documenting the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, which escalated into an international war on terrorism. He later proceeded to Central Asia to cover the situation from Afghanistan. He also reported on the Kashmir war from India. Bellini got a gold prize from the New York Festivals for his presentation “Jason’s Journal: The Holy Land,” which focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Bellini was one of 18 embedded journalists for CNN during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He reported from his post in the United States Marine Corps, frequently from the front lines. Bellini was one of the CNN correspondents and anchors who covered the breaking news event of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in February 2003.
