St Martin’s Press released Adams’ first book, Everything Women of Color Should Know About Cosmetic Surgery, in 2000. His television debut came in 2001 when he was hired as a correspondent for the syndicated entertainment show Extra. He also appeared on the daytime discussion show The Other Half, which he co-hosted with Dick Clark, Danny Bonaduce, and Mario Lopez. He has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Plastic Surgery: Before and After.

Adams was the plastic surgeon who conducted breast reduction surgery, among other treatments, on Donda West, Kanye West’s mother. Donda West died the next day, November 10, 2007, at home, while being cared for by her nephew, a nurse. Donda West died on January 10, 2008, of “coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors due to or as a result of liposuction and mammoplasty,” according to the final coroner’s report. According to court records, two malpractice cases filed against Adams in 2001 resulted in judgments of $217,337 and $250,000 Adams was arrested again on June 26, 2008, in Solano County, California, for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license.
