Laing rose to prominence in 2011 with the E4 reality show Made in Chelsea, when she appeared in the second season. In 2012, he founded Candy Kittens, a confectionary company that focuses on vegan and vegetarian treats. Laing’s acting credentials include a fashion show attendee in the 2016 film Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie and a doctor in a 2017 episode of the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks.
He also broke the previous world record for ‘number of jelly beans tossed in mouth per 30 seconds’ on Series 12 Episode 3 of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, with 18 jellybeans, beating the previous record by 3.
He starred on Celebrity Hunted’s inaugural season in 2017, alongside Spencer Matthews, his Made in Chelsea co-star. In 2018, he appeared on the third episode of the inaugural season of The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off.
Laing was announced as one of the celebrities to appear in the seventeenth season of Strictly Come Dancing in August 2019, however a foot ailment forced him to withdraw on September 5, two days before the debut episode, when he was paired with professional dancer Oti Mabuse. He was replaced by Kelvin Fletcher, who eventually won the series. The following year, he was revealed as a contestant on the eighteenth season, when he was re-partnered with Karen Hauer, reaching the final and finishing as one of the runners-up.Laing is the only person to have appeared on two distinct seasons of Strictly.
In 2018, he filmed a Channel 4 program called Famous and Fighting Crime, during which he volunteered as a Peterborough police officer. He has aired a podcast, Private Parts, with his buddy Francis Boulle since early 2017, and will launch a podcast, 6 Degrees from Jamie and Spencer, on BBC Sounds in May 2020 with Spencer Matthews.
