In 1989, Ginsburg opened a record label, Cedille Records, to record classical music produced by Chicago artists and composers. The mark is found in the Edgewater neighborhood of the city. Encouraged by the critical and commercial response to his early recordings, Ginsburg left law school in his second year to devote himself to Cedille on a full-time basis.

In 1994, Cedille became a non-profit corporation under the umbrella of an operating foundation, now known as Cedille Chicago, NFP. This move allowed Cedille to produce more records and undertake more innovative ventures. Cedille Records releases a total of 8 recordings per year.
