James Longman is an English journalist and foreign correspondent for the American television network ABC News. He previously worked for the BBC as a general news reporter and as the corporation’s Beirut correspondent.

Longman began his career in Syria, where he spent six months reporting for British newspapers and spending time in rebel-held areas prior to the war. He was hired by the BBC in 2012 for his expertise in Syria. He has a special interest in mental health and has reported on his own family history for the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire program, where he was based in London. He ran the London Marathon in 2016 to raise funds for Mind.
Now at ABC, he has traveled to over 40 countries for breaking news, as well as features and news specials on a wide range of topics for ABC’s Good Morning America, World News Tonight, and Nightline, as well as National Geographic’s Virus Hunters. Longman received the Radio and Television Correspondents Association’s David Bloom award and the Society of Professional Journalists’ Deadline Club award for his work in Chechnya, and he has been nominated for News Emmys for his work in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Antarctica, and the Middle East. At the 2016 Royal Television Society Awards, he was nominated for Young Talent of the Year.
