Johansen made her debut at the Cobb Comedy Club in San Francisco and won the 11th San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 1986. In the 1990s, Johansson starred in HBO’s own comedy special This’ll Take About an Hour, which was named one of the ten best TV shows of 1992 by People magazine. It was nominated for “Best Television Program”. According to Jerry Seinfeld, Johansson was first offered the role of George Costanza in Seinfeld, but he turned it down. In 2010, Johansson starred in her second comedy special, I Love You, which aired on Showtime and was directed and produced by Aristocrats editor Emory Emery. Johansen was also the director of the first Iowa Comedy Festival. On October 16, 2010, Johansson performed at the People’s Court in downtown Des Moines, taking a four-day break. Johansson is a favorite of David Letterman and made 46 appearances as the singer on Friday night’s “The Late Show with David Letterman.”
