He appeared as Mark James in the 2011 American teen science fiction action film I Am Number Four. In the film, John Smith is an extraterrestrial from the planet Lorien. He was sent to Earth as a child, along with eight others known as the Garde, to escape the invading Mogadorians.
John has developed powers and is protected by a guardian (known as Cêpan), Henri. The Mogadorians apprehend John, Sarah, Sam, and Number Six in order to steal their Lorien artifacts. John saves Sarah from a fall, revealing his abilities, and the two of them flee to their school. Number Six and Bernie, who turns out to be a Chimera sent by John’s parents to protect him, save them.

He appeared as Ian O’Shea in the 2013 American romantic sci-fi thriller film The Host. Melanie Stryder, a human on the run, is apprehended and infused with a Soul called “Wanderer,” whom a “Seeker” soul has asked to access Melanie’s memories. Wanderer escapes to the desert with Melanie’s help, where Jeb finds her and takes her to a series of caves inside a mountain. Wanderer infiltrates a Soul medical facility in order to steal alien medicine, ultimately saving Jamie’s life. Kyle tries to kill Wanderer but puts his own life in danger, so she saves him. Wanderer offers to show Doc how to properly remove Souls in exchange for him removing her from Melanie’s body later.

She appeared as Adam Milligan in Supernatural. Milligan and John Winchester, as well as Dean and Sam Winchester’s younger half-brother. He also served as Michael’s vessel when Dean refused to accept him. Sam’s body is eventually rescued by Castiel and his soul by Death after successfully sealing Michael, Lucifer, Adam, and himself in Lucifer’s Cage, but Adam is left behind with Michael and Lucifer.
