In the thirteen-episode children’s comedy Big Kids, Stubbs played Sarah Spiller. At a school charity function, Simon, Kate, and their parents, Sarah and Geoff, the Spiller family, are hypnotized. Following the concert, Kate and Simon learn that their parents were never fully hypnotized, which is why they went dark and behaved like kids. While attempting to persuade their parents of the change and identify the trigger, they must maintain control over them. Simon tries to hide from Jake, his best friend, that his parents are hypnotized. While Kate and Simon are compelled to behave like responsible adults, Sarah and Geoff behave in ways that they would ordinarily chastise their kids for while they are in trances.
Through the use of video footage and the revelation that the trigger is “ming” or any phrase containing the word “ming,” the youngsters eventually persuade their parents in this episode that delves into the delicate bond between parent and child. They persuade Ming to break their parents’ hypnosis, but their silly antics on a carousel leave the kids unsure of whether Sarah and Geoff are being consciously silly, have reverted to hypnosis, or have always been “big kids.”
