Ilya Sutskever OpenAI
Over dinner in 2015, Sutskever co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Greg Brockman. Brockman later stated that Sutskever was a clear technical specialist with broad knowledge and vision who could always dive into the minutiae of existing system limitations and capabilities. He switched from Google Brain to OpenAI in December 2015.
Ilya Sutskeve Career
Sutskever worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Andrew Ng at Stanford University for two months after graduating in 2012. He subsequently went to the University of Toronto to work for Hinton’s new research firm, DNNResearch, which is a spinoff of Hinton’s research group. Four months later, in March 2013, Google acquired DNNResearch and employed Sutskever as a Google Brain research scientist.
Sutskever collaborated with Oriol Vinyals and Quoc Viet Le at Google Brain to develop the sequence-to-sequence learning algorithm. He also contributed to the development of AlexNet and TensorFlow.
After moving to Canada at the age of 16, he honed his programming talents and set his sights on creating computers with capacities previously reserved for human intellect. He pondered the essence of existence, awareness, and the enigmatic nature of learning as a teen. Despite computers’ incapacity to learn at the time, he was adamant that the mystery of learning was not limited to the human experience.
