Illeana Douglas is an American actress and director who earned the OFTA Award for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series and the Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy for her role in the TV series Action. She also appears on Turner Classic Movies, where she delivers specials on underappreciated female directors throughout film history.

Douglas was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, to Joan Douglas and Gregory Hesselberg. Her parents were greatly impacted by 1970s hippie culture, while Douglas’ father is the son of Hollywood actor Melvyn Douglas and his wife Rosalind Hightower. Douglas has two older brothers: Stefan Gregor Hesselberg, a histology technician at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Erik Hesselberg, a journalist.
She grew raised in Connecticut, Connecticut, and New York, with her parents having a relaxed parenting style and not encouraging her to attend college. Her mother is Roman Catholic, and her maternal grandmother, a former Rockette, aspired to be an actor. At one point, her statements led in her being physically beaten by a criminal, leaving her on crutches while defending Jeremy Brice, as noticed by Elizabeth Donnelly, who stated that she was amazed both legs weren’t shattered given her mouth. Beverly Tyson is the wife of Barry Freeburg, who was involved in an affair with gangster and high school lover Frank Chess. Freeburg learned about and lied to Tyson about Chess’ identity being exposed by T.K. Richmond, an extortionist and tabloid reporter chasing Freeburg’s film studio, knowing how Chess would respond. Chess murdered Richmond with a vehicle bomb after Freeburg raped Richmond’s sister Jeannie.
When Chess was discovered and jailed, he admitted to listening in on Freeburg and Tyson. She was exonerated because she was used as an unsuspecting pawn, and Freeburg was caught for attempting to bribe Detective Logan.
Six Feet Under
She played Angela on Six Feet Under. Angela is a mortician recruited by Nate and David to replace Federico when he left Fisher & Sons. She excels at her job, but they struggle to adjust to her eagerness to express herself. After being ordered to leave, Federico returns to work for them.
Action
She played Wendy Ward, a former child actor and the adorable star of the TV show The Elephant Princess (not to be confused with The Elephant Princess). She was an adolescent cocaine addict and is now a high-end hooker with a heart of gold. Peter appoints her Vice President of Production at Dragonfire Films, and they have a loving open relationship. Douglas later described this role as “the greatest part offered to me in my career”.
Action is an American dark comedy sitcom about Peter Dragon, a Hollywood producer who is trying to recoup from his previous box-office debacle. It aired on Fox between September 16 and December 2, 1999. The series received critical acclaim for its irreverent and sometimes scathing take on Hollywood culture. A total of 13 episodes were produced. Chris Thompson devised the show, while Don Reo was the showrunner. Will Forte, a future Saturday Night Live cast member, served as story editor for twelve episodes and authored three of them.
