Masters is the host of the KPFK, Pacifica Radio show Background Briefing, which focuses on American politics, international affairs, and internal security problems. Since 1980, Masters has hosted a weekly episode of Background Briefing; in 2009, the show was expanded to five days per week. It is played on over forty radio stations in the United States and is also accessible as a podcast. Masters resigned from his position as anchor of “Background Briefing” at KPFK and now produces the show as an online podcast from his home in Santa Monica. His shows are no longer broadcast on KPFK FM radio. They are now broadcast on KPFA in Berkeley, California.

Masters formerly worked as a Senior Fellow at UCLA’s Center for Strategic and International Affairs and as a Senior Fellow at UCLA’s Center for International Relations.
