Ian Leslie is an Australian television journalist and business communicator of Indonesian origin. Leslie began as a cadet journalist with the local newspaper/television company in Toowoomba in 1962, eventually advancing to the position of News Editor. Leslie began as a cadet journalist with the local newspaper/television company in Toowoomba in 1962, eventually advancing to the position of News Editor. In 1972, he traveled to Sydney to work as a senior correspondent for the Ten Network. In 1977, he moved to the Nine Network to work on A Current Affair. The Australian version of 60 Minutes premiered on the Nine Network in 1979, with Ian Leslie, Ray Martin, and George Negus as the first reporting team. He held that position for the next 11 years, until 1989. He is best renowned for his compassionate reporting, particularly when children were involved, and for his unflinching commitment to exposing suffering in Australia and underdeveloped countries throughout his time with 60 Minutes.

Leslie has reported from most of the world’s main conflict zones, including Uganda, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lebanon, Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines, Burma, Korea, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and Northern Ireland. He is the only Australian journalist who has spoken with Egypt’s President Anwar Sadat. He spoke with several other foreign leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Moraji Desai, Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and Ugandan Presidents Ferdinand Marcos, Godfrey Beniza, Milton Obote, and Yoweri Muzeweri. In 1989, he returned to the Ten Network to manage and create primetime documentaries and special programs, eventually becoming the host of the Ten Evening News. Ian Leslie founded a production firm specializing in corporate communications in 1990. He hosted Fox Television’s award-winning documentary series Running On Empty in 2005.
