Hirsh began performing at the age of three, alongside her older brother Greg. Hirsch and her family relocated regularly, initially to Pensacola, Florida, where Hallee won her first part with Disney’s Big Red Boat cruise line following her initial audition in Orlando. When Hallee was four, her mother was relocated to Long Island, and she began taking the train into Manhattan after school to audition virtually every day, landing roles like Annabel Fox in You’ve Got Mail. Hirsh initially appeared as Rachel Greene in the ninth season (2001-02) of ER, in a storyline in which a now-teenage and rebellious Rachel leaves her mother in St. Louis to be with her father, Mark Greene; the character returns to St. Louis when Mark dies that season.
Hirsh returned to the character in the season 10 episode “Midnight” in 2004, when she visited her stepmother, Dr. Elizabeth Corday. In the ER series finale, “And in the End,” which aired on April 2, 2009, Hirsh’s character returned as a candidate interviewing for medical school, bringing the Greene family history full circle. Following her one main season on ER, Hirsh played Matilda “Mattie” Grace Johnson in 17 recurring episodes of the television series JAG from 2003 to 2005. Hirsh then appeared in the Discovery Kids Channel adolescent series Flight 29 Down. Hirsh was nominated for Best Comedic Actress in a Feature Film at the 2009 Method Fest film festival for her performance in 16 to Life, and she won Best Actress for the part.
