From 2008 until late summer of 2017, he served as the co-host of Good Day New York on Fox 5 NY WNYW, with Rosanna Scotto. He was formerly the co-host of Fox and Friends and a Fox News reporter for the White House. In the Marine Corps Reserve, Kelly is also a former lieutenant colonel.

At ABC affiliate WIVT-TV in Binghamton, New York, Kelly was an anchor for the morning news show in the late 1990s, where he secured an exclusive interview with the then U.S. Bill Clinton the President. Later, Kelly was a New York City election correspondent for NY1, where he covered the 2001 mayoral race, and on September 11, 2001, delivered detailed live coverage from Ground Zero. Soon afterward, Kelly joined Fox News.
In 2003, Kelly was an embedded reporter with the 3rd Infantry Division, 2nd Battalion, of the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom. When a mortar round exploded near him while crossing the Euphrates River with the 3rd Infantry Division on March 31, 2003, he sustained a minor shrapnel wound to the chest.
On April 5, 2003, Kelly was the first TV journalist to broadcast live photographs of U.S. security forces hitting Baghdad. At one of his press conferences, Minister of Information Muhammad Said al-Sahhaf, a.k.a. Baghdad Bob, showed that Coalition troops were not in Baghdad, Fox News showed reporter Kelly riding a tank around the city on a split-screen. Two days later, during the storming of Saddam Hussein’s presidential palace, Kelly seized another one.
His investigative assignments have taken him back to Iraq several times, as well as to Gaza, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait.
