She is the daughter of Charles Palmer and Lula Palmer. Kent attended Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia after graduating from North Panola High School, where she majored in Journalism and Public Relations. Kent was the first African-American to be elected president of the Student Senate at Northwest. She then transferred to Mississippi State University in Starkville, where she completed her undergraduate studies. Kent was the first African-American woman elected to the Student Association at Mississippi State, where she served as Attorney General.

You Are What You Tweet was named one of four books chosen by actor Romany Malco to teach President Donald Trump social media etiquette in March 2017. The critically acclaimed book was submitted to the White House as part of Malco’s campaign. Kent collaborated on the book Women Of Faith: Their Untold Stories Revealed: Teen Edition: Bully & Cyber Bullying Prevention with author and publisher Rhonda Branch Yearby in June 2017.

Kent competed in the 1991 Hal Jackson Talented Teens International pageant in New York City, representing Tennessee. She beat out over 120 other contenders from all over the world for the “Miss Personality Award.” Kent was kissed onstage by Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men at her crowning in a notorious pageant scene.
