George Wendt is an American actor and comedian best known for his role on the television sitcom Cheers, for which he received six Emmy nominations. He also appeared in his own sitcom, The George Wendt Show, which was terminated after only a few episodes. He has appeared in a variety of films, including Fletch, Gung Ho, Dreamscape, House, Forever Young, Hostage for a Day, Man of the House, and Lakeboat.

Family – Education

Wendt Jr. was born in the Beverly area on Chicago’s south side. His parents were Loretta Mary (née Howard) and George Robert Wendt, a Navy officer and realtor. He is one of nine children, including six sisters (Nancy, Karen, Mary Ann, Kathryn, Loretta, and Marti) and two brothers (Tom and Paul). His maternal grandfather was Tom Howard, a photographer. His first appearance on Saturday Night Live was in season 11 (1985-1986), when he co-hosted with director Francis Ford Coppola.
