George Anders Career

Since the 1980s, Anders has been writing for national periodicals. He began his writing career at The Wall Street Journal, where he rose to become a top feature writer specializing in in-depth profiles. A 1996 profile of electronics salesman Jeff Bloom and his fight to regain his health after being diagnosed with AIDS was included in a collection of Journal pieces that won the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting. Anders’ 1998 article on Healtheon’s difficulty producing medical-record software was cited as a major cause for the company’s subsequent postponement of its much-anticipated initial public offering. Author Michael Lewis writes in The New New Thing that when Healtheon CEO Mike Long saw the Journal story, he “knew instantly that the roadshow was over.” From 2000 until 2003, Anders worked as the West Coast bureau chief for Fast Company after leaving The Wall Street Journal. Anders returned to the Journal in 2003 until leaving in 2008. He then became a founding member of the Bloomberg View editorial board and began working as a contributing writer for Forbes in 2012. He joined LinkedIn’s editorial staff in October 2017 as a senior editor at large.
