Akinnagbe appeared in Independence Day: Resurgence as Matthew Travis. The former president of the United States, Thomas Whitmore, was put under the protection of agent Matthew Travis of the Secret Service.

Following a confrontation, they find Tanner’s flight key, which indicates that Margot Al-Harazi has taken control of his drone. Ritter managed to flee the building before the drone detonated it, accompanied by Navarro and a team from the CIA.

Ritter and Kate apprehend Ian and Margot Al-Harazi, who were persuaded that Heller had passed away. They discover that Navarro’s hitman, James Harman, and their colleague, Jordan Reed, were both discovered dead. After Navarro is exposed as having sold secrets to China and framing Kate’s husband Adam for it, he is appointed as the acting chief of staff. Ritter alerts Jack to the fact that Navarro has been trained to withstand increased interrogation methods and will remove him if he goes too far.
