Saporta wanted to launch a group that was more lighthearted and whose music could combine numerous electronic influences after Midtown. During a trip to the Arizona desert in 2005, he had the idea for Cobra Starship. Saporta produced and recorded the first Cobra album with S*A*M & Sluggo on his own.
