Hannelius was born to Eric and Karla (née Knight) Hannelius. Her father is Swedish. She relocated to Yarmouth, Maine, at the age of three, and then to Los Angeles with her family when she was nine years old to pursue her acting career. She graduated from the Young Actors Studio, which is located in Los Angeles. She graduated from Sierra Canyon School in May 2017. Hannelius relocated to New York City in January of 2022.
