Hammond has kept a busy schedule as a solo musician and as a member of the gospel group Commissioned (currently for Verity Records). He has received numerous nominations for Grammy, Dove, and Stellar awards as a performer, producer, and writer. Hammond rose to prominence while playing bass guitar for the gospel group The Winans. He was one of the six founding members of the band Commissioned by 1985, appearing on ten of the group’s twelve albums. Following his departure from Commissioned, he rose to prominence in the gospel world thanks to the success of his band Radical For Christ, which sold millions of albums.

To create the Commissioned Reunion Live CD in 2002, Hammond rejoined the band Commissioned, which now included Keith Staten, Marvin Sapp, Mitchell Jones, Karl Reid, Michael Williams, and Marcus Cole. Chanté Moore and Kenny Lattimore’s 2006 double-CD of gospel and R&B love songs, Uncovered/Covered (released October 10, 2006 by LaFace/Verity/Zomba Music Group), featured “Make Me Like the Moon,” a gospel ballad that was co-written by both of them. Hammond produced the album. On the unreleased album Thank You, he collaborates musically with Sean Combs.
