Although Cutty’s preferred artists are Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie, it’s unclear what instrument he plays. However, one could conclude that he plays the trumpet.
Cutty notes in “Simone” that he is “a leader in the ‘Defund The Police’ movement” and that he had served time in jail for unrelated crimes. When Simone tells him that an FBI probe led to his exoneration, he replies that the FBI attempted to undermine Black Lives Matter and civil rights movement leaders.
Cutty refuses to shake Officer Nolan’s hand when it is first extended, demonstrating his mistrust of the LAPD as well as law enforcement in general. After providing assistance to the folks at the community center where James Murray works, Cutty runs into his daughter, who stops by to inquire about a group of Russian chess players he plays with called the Redfellas.
