Age

Born as Francine Joy Drescher, the American actress and comedian is 66 years old as of 30 September 1957 in Flushing, New York, United States.

Drescher’s Parents and Siblings

Born in Queens, a borough of New York City, on September 30, 1957, Drescher was the younger daughter of naval systems analyst Morty Drescher and bridal consultant Sylvia Drescher. Her family is Jewish and hails from Central and Southeast Europe.

While her father’s family originated in Poland, her maternal great-grandmother Yetta traveled to the United States after being born in Focșani, Romania. Nadine is her elder sister. In 1973, Drescher placed first runner-up for the title of “Miss New York Teenager”. Morty, Drescher’s father, passed away in March 2024 at the age of 94.

Education

The Nanny actress went to Hillcrest High School in Jamaica, Queens, after attending the later-dissolved Parsons Junior High School in Flushing. There she met Peter Marc Jacobson, her future husband, whom she married in 1978 at the age of twenty-one. 1999 saw their divorce. Comedian Ray Romano was a student at Hillcrest High School when Drescher graduated in 1975.

The Nanny’s Fran Fine, played by Drescher, and Everybody Loves Raymond’s Ray Barone, played by Romano, got together at a 20th high school reunion. At Queens College, City University of New York, Drescher and Jacobson enrolled but left after their first year because “all the acting classes were filled.” After that, they enrolled in a cosmetology program.

Drescher’s Husband

High school sweethearts Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson tied the knot at age 21. They were raped in their Los Angeles flat in 1985 by two armed thieves. At gunpoint, Drescher and a female companion were sexually assaulted, while Jacobson was assaulted and restrained. Years passed before she was well enough to share her experience with the media. Drescher was returned to prison and handed two life terms; at the time, he was on parole.

They separated in 1996 and got divorced in 1999. Since her ex-husband came out, Drescher has fought for LGBT rights. Her need to change her life’s course was the main cause of the divorce. Drescher and Jacobson are still close friends and professional associates, and their love is exceptional, uncommon, and unwavering. Drescher and Shiva Ayyadurai celebrated their relationship rather than being married in a traditional wedding or marriage ceremony at Drescher’s beach property in 2014. Two years later, the couple split up.

Did Drescher have a baby?

The star of The Nanny may have taken care of three kids in the show, but she never had children of her own and occasionally laments that.

Net Worth

The actor’s net worth is esatimated to be $25 million.

What stage cancer did Drescher have?

On June 21, 2000, Drescher was taken to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles following two years of symptoms and eight incorrect diagnoses. The physicians eventually determined that Drescher had uterine cancer. To address the illness, she needed a radical hysterectomy right away. Drescher was found to be cancer-free, and no orders for post-operative care were made.

In her second book, Cancer Schmancer, Drescher writes about her experiences. She wanted people “to become more aware of the early warning signs of cancer and to empower themselves” by writing this book. According to Drescher, “I was going to learn what I needed to learn, ask questions, become partners with my doctor instead of having some kind of parent/child relationship.”

On June 21, 2007, which was also the seventh anniversary of her surgery, Drescher declared the national debut of the Cancer Schmancer Movement, a nonprofit group whose mission is to guarantee that all female cancer cases are identified when they are still treatable, or in Stage 1.

On June 21, 2010, she marked ten years of being well. She states that she wants to live in a time where early cancer detection rates rise and women’s death rates decline in tandem with advances in medical care. Her vocal advocacy for healthcare in Washington DC led to the unanimous passing of H.R. 1245, popularly known as Johanna’s Law, and she is recognized in the Congressional Record for her efforts.

The Nanny

In 1993, Drescher and Jacobson launched The Nanny, a television program of their own. From 1993 to 1999, the sitcom ran on CBS, and Drescher shot to fame. She portrayed Fran Fine in this sitcom, a woman who inadvertently took on the role of nanny for Margaret (“Maggie”) (played by Nicholle Tom), Brighton (“B”) (played by Benjamin Salisbury), and Grace (“Gracie”) Sheffield (played by Madeline Zima). Her humor and charm won over their widower father, Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy), a stuffy, collected, proper British gentleman. In season 5, episode 3, of The Nanny, she returned to her role as Bobbi Flekman on This is Spinal Tap, which was a spoof of her Fran Fine character.

Saturday Night Fever

In 1977’s Saturday Night Fever, Drescher made her screen debut as dancer Connie, giving John Travolta’s character the line, “So, are you as good in bed as you are on the dance floor?”

2010 saw the Library of Congress designate Saturday Night Fever as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and include it in the United States National Film Registry for preservation. With a total box office gross of $673,899,098 in 2024, adjusted for inflation, it is one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies released in the United States during the 1970s.
