Fortune was hired as Procter’s personal assistant because of her friendly relationship with Procter’s neighbor, who worked for the Los Angeles Daily News. She began studying improv and sketch comedy at The Groundlings Theatre in 2005. Fortune was hired as an employee for the Groundings Sunday Company four years later. She made her first appearance as herself in Last Comic Standing in 2010, followed by The Secret Lives of Dorks (2013) and Life in Color in 2015.
