When Cutkosky was four years old, he started doing photo ads to spend time with his mother. He was asked to audition for commercials and then movies after a few ads. When he was seven years old, he landed his first film role as Carl alongside Vince Vaughn in the Christmas comedy Fred Claus (2007). Cutkosky made his film debut at the age of nine, playing a mythical spirit named Barto in the supernatural horror film The Unborn (2009), opposite Gary Oldman. Cutkosky was cast as Carl Gallagher, the second youngest Gallagher sibling and the biggest troublemaker in the Showtime television series Shameless, whose protagonists are Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy. Cutkosky continues to expand his voice as an artist, creating his own fashion brand Khaotic Collective in 2018 and producing music. Cutkosky released a single, “Erase Me”, on July 16, 2021.
Ethan began learning martial arts at the age of four. In Taekwondo, he earned a second-degree black belt. He is uninterested in video games and other technological gadgets. Instead, he is always more interested in physical activities that require effort. On the sets of ‘The Unborn,’ he earned the nickname ‘One Take Barto,’ because he always tried to do everything in his first take. His parents had forbidden him from playing Barto. His determination, on the other hand, changed everything. He does, however, try to be consistent and enjoys spending time with his family.
