Esther Wojcicki Career
From 1984 until 2020, Wojcicki taught journalism and English at Palo Alto High School. There, she established one of America’s largest journalism programs. She has also worked as a professional journalist for several publications and often blogs for The Huffington Post. Wojcicki was named Northern California Journalism Teacher of the Year in 1990, and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing named her California Teacher of the Year in 2002. She sat on the University of California Office of the President Curriculum Committee, where she helped update the state of California’s starting and advanced journalism curriculum. The Columbia Scholastic Press Association gave her the Gold Key in appreciation of her extraordinary devotion in 2009.
Wojcicki is also a member of the “Developmental Studies Center” and the “Alliance for Excellent Education” She is the chairperson of the board of “Learning Matters” and a member of the THNK School of Creative Leadership’s advisory board. She is the Chief Learning Officer for Explore Planet3, a middle school scientific discovery platform. Wojcicki serves on the boards of the Newseum and the Freedom Forum in Washington, D.C. She has honorary degrees from Palo Alto University (2013) and the Rhode Island School of Design (2016). Wojcicki established the Journalistic Learning Initiative at the University of Oregon School of Communications and Education in 2016.
She also founded the Moonshots in Education (MiE) movement in 2017. In 2019, she released How to Raise Successful People, a parenting book based on the concept she employed to raise her three kids. In May 2019, Wojcicki appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour to discuss her life and the book. Wojcicki coached Steve Jobs’ daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, in high school.
