Eric Wilson is an American journalist who works for WTVO-TV Channel 17 as a news anchor. He started working at the station in May of 2016. Eric formerly worked as a news anchor at WREX-TV in Rockford, Illinois, before joining WTVO-TV.

Wilson began her career at Entertainment Tonight as an intern in 1991. Eric later worked as a Disk Jockey and Music Director for WZOK Radio. WREX-TV, Channel 13 News, employed Eric as a news anchor. In addition, Eric served as a coordinator for Rock Valley College’s New Student Enrollment in Rockford, Illinois. Dickerson & Nieman Realtors employs Eric as a real estate broker. Wilson is also an adjunct professor at Rock Valley College. Wilson is a reporter for WTVO-TV, Channel 17 News.
He earned his pilot’s license in 2003 and enjoys flying with his family on short trips. His favorite memory is of surprising his wife with a trip to see Cheap Trick and Aerosmith. He’s eager to share his love of flying with anyone who would listen. He’s also a real estate agent with a license. Wilson didn’t always want to be a newscaster. Eric had been admitted to the United States Air Force Academy but had to decline after realizing that he couldn’t be a military pilot due to his lack of 20/20 eyesight. Eric graduated from Lewis University with a double major in Radio/TV Broadcasting and Theater, where he originally planned to become a pilot. Eric began his career as an intern at Entertainment Tonight in Los Angeles and at WGN-TV in Chicago, where he worked alongside Tom Skilling in the weather department. He served as a fill-in weatherman at WOWO-AM radio and WKJG-TV in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, before getting a job at WZOK-FM in Rockford. While working at 97ZOK, Eric began handling weather for the NBC affiliate in Rockford, eventually leaving radio for a full-time career at the Rockford television station. He spent nearly two decades there, more than 15 of them as the main anchor.
