Meredith Grey, Derek Shepherd, Cristina Yang, and Owen Hunt were the doctors assigned to the case. Dunn was isolated from other patients by being put in the VIP lounge. He was rushed to the operating room to have the kidney and shank removed after an MRI detected cerebral contusions. He refused the procedure and Meredith offered him more morphine to ease his discomfort.

When he met Jackson Prescott, the man offered his organs and questioned him about his mistakes. He begged Meredith to let him die, but she refused to approve of his procedure. Meredith paged Bailey instead of Derek after his operation, and Bailey informed him he was a match for Jackson. After learning that Dunn’s organs matched those of Jackson, Miranda Bailey begged Derek to allow him to pass away. Derek went on, giving Shepherd the freedom to decide whether or not she wanted to survive. William invited Meredith to his execution following the procedure so she may see one familiar face in the throng.
