Kubainski filled in as a news presenter on Sunrise in October 2009, while Natalie Barr was co-hosting and Melissa Doyle was on vacation. Kubainski sat in for Ann Sanders on Seven Morning News in December 2010, and also provided news updates on The Morning Show and Seven Late News Updates. In Sydney, she also hosted Today Tonight.

Kubainski returned to her birthplace of Brisbane in October 2012. Blake Johnson and Samantha Jolly were confirmed as her joint replacements as weekend presenters on Seven News in January 2013. Kubainski became a reporter for Seven News Brisbane.

Kubainski returned to Perth in February 2015 to join the Nine Network. She took over as co-anchor on Nine News alongside Tim McMillan in April, replacing Libby Stone (who returned to Nine News Queensland). Nine News’ national ratings were the highest in almost a decade in her first year, but ratings declined in succeeding years, and the Nine Network confirmed in December 2017 that Kubainski’s and McMillan’s contracts would not be renewed.
