She studied tap, jazz, and classical ballet in a variety of pre-professional dance programs from 1998 to 2005, including those offered by Ballet Arts Minnesota, Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, The Joffrey Ballet, and the American Ballet Theatre on scholarship. Wayzata High School in Plymouth, Minnesota is where she graduated.

Tyra was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in March 2019 and underwent surgery to remove it. Tyra returned to the stage in November 2019 as Cassie Ferguson in A Chorus Line, following her wedding to Adam Santucci in June 2019 and a brief period of rehabilitation. As of late 2019, she is still undergoing medical treatment and has become an advocate for the cancer community.

Emily Tyra Cinderella
She appeared as Cinderella in the 1987 musical with music and lyrics Into the Woods. Cinderella, Jack, Little Red, and the baker are introduced by the narrator. The pair is cursed by the witch for taking their vegetables, including magical beans. They set out into the woods, with Jack selling his cow, Cinderella visiting her mother’s grave, Little Red visiting her grandmother’s house, and the baker refusing his wife’s assistance.
The witch and her brother Rapunzel exchange goods for the cow, and the couple collaborates. A massive crash occurs, and the witch realizes the cow is useless. The witch consumes a concoction, which breaks the spell and restores her youth and beauty. Cinderella’s prince searches for the girl who fits the slipper, while Rapunzel gives birth to twins. The witch finds her and tries to reclaim her, but her powers have been lost in the process. Birds blind her stepsisters at Cinderella’s wedding, and the baker’s wife thanks her for her assistance.
Emily Tyra A Chorus Line
She appeared as dancer Cassie Ferguson in A Chorus Line, a 1975 musical with music. In the film, The dancers head downstairs to practice a song for the next phase of the audition, but seasoned dancer Cassie Ferguson, who has had major solo success, stays onstage to speak with Zach. Zach had previously placed her in a starring role, and they had previously lived together for several years. Zach tells Cassie that she is too talented for the chorus and that she should not be attending this audition. She does, however, explain her current struggle to get solo work and expresses her willingness to “come home” to the chorus, where she can at least express her enthusiasm for dance (“The Music and the Mirror”). Zach gives in and sends her downstairs to learn the dance routine.
