Carlson is a reporter for WHO-TV in Des Moines, Iowa. Previously, she worked as a reporter for KTVA-TV in Anchorage, Alaska. She previously reported for TV30 in the Bay Area of California until it ceased to broadcast news in June 2008. In 2006 and 2007, she reported to WICD in Champaign, Illinois. In 2005 and 2006, she worked as a reporter and news anchor at KEYC in Mankato, Minnesota, when she covered convicted rapist Michael Benson’s escape. Carlson rose to national prominence when she assisted America’s Most Wanted in gathering information on Benson, which resulted in his apprehension and arrest.[1] Carlson worked for KSTP-TV’s consumer investigations and political units in the Minnesota State Capitol in Minneapolis, Minnesota, between 2004 and 2005.

Emily Carlson won the Sparks Sternaman Founders Trophy in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 2000, as well as the Braemar McCandless Memorial Trophy for winning both Junior Ladies Freestyle events.
