Jones, a former TV investigative/consumer reporter/anchor in Des Moines, Miami, and St. Louis, wrote her book when her mother, aunt, and two sisters were all stricken with breast cancer. Jones won first prize in the National Press Club’s 1984 Best Consumer Journalism competition, as well as two Emmy Awards and four Emmy nominations for her work. Jones joined Smith Barney as a financial consultant and was the #1 market performer (how well she did for clients, not herself) at her location in downtown St. Louis in 2001. Jones joined her then-husband, Clarence, in his media consulting firm, Winning News Media Inc. She provided media consultations for numerous vegan and vegetarian doctors, nutritionists, health care professionals, and organizations.
She became a cooking instructor for The Cancer Project, a national non-profit organization that is now called Food for Life. She has been running since the age of 28 and is a qualified personal trainer (AFAA) and running coach (RRCA). Prior to publishing her book, she worked as an assistant volunteer coach for the girls’ cross country team at Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida. In addition, she works as a private personal trainer and running and walking coach in Sarasota, Florida. Jones revealed in a 2012 interview that she had been vegan for 30 years. Jones won gold in the 4×100-meter relay at the 2019 National Senior Games in Albuquerque. Jones is a Florida-licensed realtor, specializing in the Sarasota area.
