In 2008, Bryan started her career in broadcasting as a news writer and on-air personality at WCSM/WCSM-FM in Celina, Ohio. In 2010, Bryan worked as an intern, reporter, and editor at WLIO-TV in Lima, Ohio. In June 2012, following her reign as Miss Ohio, Bryan joined WTVQ-TV in Lexington, Kentucky, as a news anchor and reporter. In May 2014, Bryan started working as a reporter at KXAS-TV in Dallas–Fort Worth. In March 2016, Bryan moved to Washington, D.C., and started working as a reporter for WUSA 9. Bryan started competing in pageants while a sophomore at Ball State University, following the advice of one of her professors.
Bryan won the title of Miss Clayland 2011 in October 2010, which qualified her to compete in the Miss Ohio 2011 pageant. Bryan sang “Circle of Life” from the Disney picture The Lion King as his preliminary competition act for Miss Ohio. Bryan was one of 26 finalists that entered the state pageant in June 2011. “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors” was her platform, which raised awareness of lightning safety. Bryan became involved with lightning awareness after her older sister Christina was gravely hurt by lightning on a golf course. On Saturday, June 18, 2011, Bryan emerged victorious, accepting her crown from Becky Minger, the reigning Miss Ohio titleholder. Her duties as Miss Ohio included making public appearances all around the state.
In January 2012, Bryan represented Ohio at the Miss America 2012 competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bryan sang “On My Way” from the musical Violet as his preliminary competition skill for Miss Ohio. Despite not placing in the top 15 semi-finalists for the national title, she was awarded a Quality of Life Award Finalist. She remained Miss Ohio until June 23, 2012, when Elissa McCracken was crowned. In the end, she came in fourth behind champion Erica Gelhaus. Bryan participated in the 2010 Miss Ohio pageant in June after winning the Miss Miami Valley title in 2010. Behind winner Becky Minger, she was ranked third runner-up.
