Elise Jordan has been a lifelong Republican. In 2004, she joined the Bush administration as a researcher at the White House after graduating from Yale. She began her career as a speechwriter for then-US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. She held that position until February 2008, when she was appointed to the United States National Security Council as Director of Communications. During this time, she was also the presidential speechwriter.

She then went to work for the government. Deloitte & Touche hired her as a senior advisor for strategy, planning, and policy in February 2009. She worked as an advisor to ten ministry communications offices as part of the USAID Capacity Development Project in Kabul, Afghanistan. Jordan was a columnist for National Review Online, the web version of the semi-monthly American conservative editorial magazine. She has also been a regular contributor to prominent political publications such as The Daily Beast and Time. She was the chief of staff at H/2 Capital Partners, a financial consulting firm in Stamford, Connecticut, from March 2013 to April 2015. Jordan made her television debut on an episode of the Fox News talk show.

Jordan continued to appear on ‘Hannity’ on a sporadic basis until 2014, when he decided to try out a more challenging environment. She had mostly lived in a conservative bubble since leaving Yale. Her time in the Bush administration and at Fox News did not put her personal beliefs and agendas to the test. That changed in January 2016, when she joined NBC News and MSNBC. She is regularly challenged by the hosts on MSNBC, which is now regarded as the progressive equivalent of Fox News, which she had rarely experienced during her time at Fox.
In 2018, Elise and her co-host, political consultant Steve Schmidt, launched the ‘Words Matter’ podcast.
