Edith Falco is a well-known American actress. She is best known for her roles as Carmela Soprano in The Sopranos on HBO and Nurse Jackie Peyton in Nurse Jackie on Showtime. She also portrayed Diane Whittlesey in HBO’s Oz, a prison drama.

She is the daughter of actress Judith Anderson and jazz drummer Frank Falco, who later worked for an advertising agency. Her father was Italian, and her mother was Swedish, English, and Cornish (1/16th). Ruth is her sister, and she has two brothers, Joseph and Paul. Edward Falco, a novelist, playwright, and poet, is her uncle.
Falco was raised on Long Island beginning at the age of four, moving with her family to Hicksville, then North Babylon, and finally West Islip.She performed in plays as a child at the Arena Players Repertory Theater in East Farmingdale, where her mother also performed. Her family eventually relocated to Northport, where she graduated from high school and played Eliza Doolittle in a production of My Fair Lady her senior year. Falco attended Northport High School and graduated in 1981. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting from the State University of New York at Purchase in 1986.

She portrayed Carmela Soprano in the main role of The Sopranos. Carmela Soprano is the wife of Tony Soprano, a mafia boss. She is also the mother of Anthony Soprano Jr. and Meadow Soprano. Hugh and Mary DeAngelis are Carmela’s parents.
