He was part of the team that received the “Best Morning Show” award from the New York State Broadcasters Association. Ed was nominated for an Emmy for uncovering a phony restaurant inspection by an employee of the Erie County Department of Health. For his reporting on the COVID-19 virus and how hospitals were dealing with it, he was again nominated for an Emmy. He took the audience behind the scenes of one of the hospitals.
He is on the Board of Directors of GLYS WNY, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ youth in our community. Ed also owns Reel Talent, a company that coaches and develops student journalists and journalists in smaller markets. Since joining 7 Eyewitness News in 2014, Drantch has covered multiple major incidents affecting Western New Yorkers, including the historic November snowfall. Other investigations he’s performed have resulted in change, such as exposing security weaknesses at Niagara Falls’ lone hospital. Ed also covered the 2016 presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton at Hofstra University. Ed joined 7 News from a cross-town rival, News 4 WIVB-TV. He also hosted and produced WHSV News 3. Ed worked as an online correspondent for FOX 5, WNYW — the FOX flagship station – in New York City prior to his stint in Virginia. Ed went to Hofstra University for the final Presidential Debate in 2008. he was not only live-blogging for the whole Fox Interactive Media platform, but he was also documenting the event for the station’s website, gaining him national notoriety.
