Dwight York is an American stand-up comedian and writer from Wisconsin. York appeared at his first comedy open mic in Minneapolis in February 1989. York worked as an assembly line window builder in a Minnesota manufacturer before becoming a comedian.

After nine months of working on alternative film productions by going to shows every night, covering shows, and documenting specials, Yorke held his first open microphone in Minneapolis in February 1989. He is known for his witty comedy, which focuses on carefully crafted and sometimes grotesque gags, delivered in the persona of a man with a psychopathic and savage flair, described by the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram as “a drug addict, eccentric, angry and violent man”. He has been compared to Steven Wright, Mitch Hedberg, George Carlin, Elmore Phillips, and Bobcat Goldthwaite.
York has had success in the United States. York placed second in the 1995 National Invitational Comedy Competition held in Vail, Colorado. He was a semi-finalist in the 1996 and 1997 San Francisco International Stand-up Comedy Competition. In 2014, he placed second in the Laughlin Laughter Festival in Laughlin, Nevada. He performs annually at the Buffalo Chip Campground during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and has performed at the Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary Celebration in Milwaukee, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Chicago Comedy Festival. He became a regular guest on the national radio program The Bob & Tom Show and appeared on their 2000 compilation CD You Guys Rock. Colin Quinn has called him his favorite actor. 2009’s Quickies was filmed in Appleton, Wisconsin, and presented by MAD magazine cartoonist Mort Drucker. Minneapolis newspaper City Pages called it “the funniest joke ever put on a single disc”. Lanoie of Big Show called Quickies one of the biggest stars of 2009, Laughspin So John Celery. Jack Austin of Locktop Magazine said Yorke’s “laughs per minute” would go down as “comedic gold”. York has written several books about his work as an entertainer, including The Mean File: The Gross Jokes and its sequel, The Mean File: 500 Gross Jokes. He also published a semi-autobiographical graphic novel in 2019, telling the story of an entertainer grappling with the difficulties of finding his “lucky break”. “York” was also published in Reader’s Digest.
