In the early 1960s, while still in high school, he began his career working the night shift at WOHS radio, playing Top 40 music. He studied communication at Wake Forest University before joining the United States Air Force as a Russian linguist. His broadcasting career took him to Monroe, Birmingham, and Charlotte. His major break came while working as the morning news editor at WKIX in Raleigh. During the 1970s, he was also the morning news editor and anchor at WHDH in Boston, Massachusetts. After leaving WHDH, he worked at WRQX in Washington, D.C., and also as the weekend weatherman for WJLA TV. Limerick began her career as an anchor correspondent for ABC Radio Networks in April 1982. For nearly a decade at ABC News Radio, he filled in for broadcaster Paul Harvey. He interviewed Bob Hope, George Wallace, Spiro Agnew, Roy Rogers, Tom Clancy, Paul Harvey, and many more during his career. Limerick received two Edward R. Murrow Journalism Awards. On December 18, 2015, Limerick announced his retirement from broadcasting.
