Derrin has hosted, anchored, reported, and called play-by-play for some of America’s largest sports networks for the past 22 years. Horton has hosted a number of NFL Network studio shows since 2004, including “NFL Total Access,” “Point After,” “College Football Now,” and “Path to the Draft.” Derrin has reported from the sidelines for all NFL Network productions, including “NFL GameDay Morning” and “NFL Total Access on Location,” in addition to hosting.

He spent the previous five years at KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, where he anchored “Sports Central” and was the primary feature reporter for Channel 9’s coverage of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team. Derrin’s genuine passion is telling stories, and he won an Emmy for his coverage of the Special Olympics while at KCAL. Following his graduation from Syracuse, he began his professional career as a radio broadcaster for WHBC-AM in Canton, Ohio. Six months later, he relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina, to host “Black College Sports Today,” and to WXII-TV, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he covered Wake Forest, Duke, UNC, and NC State football and basketball, as well as the NASCAR circuit.

After two years in North Carolina, he packed his belongings and moved to the Midwest to anchor weekend sports for WLWT-TV, Cincinnati’s NBC affiliate. From there, he went to Fox affiliate WFLD-TV in Chicago, where he hosted all of the Chicago Bears programming and covered Michael Jordan’s return to the Bulls. The next stop was St. Louis’ KDNL-TV, where he covered the Rams’ inaugural season in Missouri as well as Mark McGwire’s record-breaking home run chase with the Cardinals.

Derrin relocated to Los Angeles in September 1998 and began working for Fox Sports Net as a sideline reporter on the Conference USA package. As a play-by-play announcer for ESPN, he eventually began calling college football and basketball.
